For me it is the times when I choose to do more than consume content and connect with others more intentionally. Maybe it's a reply to a comment or question, sharing someone else's work that I've gotten something out of, or sending or responding to a DM.
Awesome points and article. In this day and age, I see the importance to learn the skill of filtering. Especially when it comes to media and other social attractors that battle for your time and attention.
Great stories or experiences in gaming, as an e.g., build us up. But many just offer some gameplay to keep us busy with tasks, giving us online points rather than fulfillment. Basically stealing our time.
A good point to start learning to filter is indeed to understand the importance of your time and attention, which your article tackles.
As for what I find to fill the void the most... for me is actually creating. Especially now that I play games with my son and create reviews for gamer parents through a dad's eye, where I look at how the game builds-up my son and our relation. These are most fulfilling, along side my personal articles that cover personal stories through games.
Thank you for this comment! Totally agree on how gaming can steal or redeem our time. I'm so glad to hear you are finding a way to make it even more fulfilling with writing.
Where have you found more fulfilling life online? What's a digital experience where you feel the void being filled rather than just doomscrolling?
